Patients should choose a date for quitting smoking and start
taking Chentix medication one week before that date. Patients can keep
smoking during the week before the quit date, however,
patients should try to stop smoking on the quit date.
Chantix should be taken after a meal with a full glass of
water.
The typical dose is: day 1-3, .5 mg (white tablet), 1/day;
day 4-7, .5 mg twice/day (in morning and evening); day 8 to
end of treatment (twelve to twenty-four weeks), 1 mg (blue
tablet) twice a day (in morning and evening).
Chantix should be stored at room temperature (59-86 degrees
F (15-30 degrees C).
Chantix should be kept out of reach of children and should
not be taken when out of date. All patients that are
prescribed Chantax will have the chance to enroll in a free
educational support program to provide education on the
behavioral aspects of nicotine addiction and relapse. Even
if there are relapses during treatment, patients are
encouraged to continue to attempt to quit smoking.
Patients should be informed that the most common reactions
are nausea and insomnia and do not last long. If symptoms
are persistent, patients should notify their doctor so that
the dosage can be reduced. More serious adverse reactions
associated with gastrointestinal problems, psychiatric
disorders, nervous system problems, respiratory and skin
problems, metabolism disorders, cardiac disorders, blood and
lymphatic disorders can occur, but are rare.
Patients should also be
advised that there would be nicotine withdrawal symptoms
associated with quitting smoking with or without treatment |
